Copan Honduras
The small town of Copan Honduras just a kilometer or so from the Copan ruins.
A replica of a Mayan temple. The Mayans built a pyramid on top of the original
temple so that when the archeologists found it all of it's original stucco
and colors had been preserved. Since the original is still inside a solid
pyramid it's not possible for tourists to see the original.
The museum at the copan ruins. Archeologists are bring the original pieces
into the museum to protect them from further erosion and placing replicas
outside.

the ruins.
A pyramid and the entrance to a tunnel which the archeologists use to study
the insides of the various structures.
More ruins
Still more ruins. While the Mayans were not very tall all the steps on the
buildings are better suited to 9' tall then 5' tall people. Apparently the
reason for this is that the steps where primarily used as seating which is
why the alters tend to be on the ground level.
More ruins including the ball court. There where no perennial losers in that
sport as the losers tended to be sacrificed. The players weren't lacking
motivation either.
I believe the technical term for this is "statue thing"
A close up of one of the statues with some of the original color remaining.
