    October 29 - 31, 2002: Acupulco to Tapachula...The border

    Odometer: 14,197

Well, we did it. We made it to the Mexican Guatemalan border in just 26 days...Man, where's the time going!

We didn't do anything extraordinary enough to report about during the journey here in Tapachula. Except maybe for once electing to take a hotel immediately instead of following the advice of the Footprint travel guide we are carrying. We got into town around 3:30pm central and spent too much money on a conventionaires Travellodge. But, as soon as we unloaded, down came one of those massive tropicals you always hear about.

I'm dry. My beer is wet. Life is good :-)

Our last night in Acupulco we decided to take one of those touristy boat rides through the harbor, inlet, lagoon, whatever it is that makes the place. One of those, all the food and drinks you can stand on a pitching tour boat. Skip the dried out hamburgers and head for the rum baby ;-)

We met up with a couple of nice blokes from Manchester England who were quite a good time. We ended up hanging out with them during the entire tour with the old get to know you and lo, one of them, Craig, rides an Aprilla 250gs. Cool! Conversation drifted into motorcycle land and kicking tires and telling lies. A lot of fun actually.

From there we went on to the local Hooters. The only one around was next to our hotel, even though these guys had Hugh convinced there was another close to their hotel on the other side of the lagoon, inlet, harbor, whatever. THis led Hugh to further test his touris waters with a fancy coach ride. I think he had a good time anyway.

From there Hugh made the correct decision to head home and get rest while I stayed out and partied to much with the englishmen. Oh, was I a hurting puppy the next day as we were leaving Acupulco. :-(

The next two days were rather boring. You've seen one palm tree.....

Anyway, it's off to Guatemala tomorrow morning. Hugh has worked to get us set up with a couple of host families while we are in Antigua. While there we will be attempting to hone our Spanish speaking skills. Hopefully the cost will be worth it. It is rather cheap so I hope things work out ok.
